Some of the<br \/>\nmain reasons for such change of residency may include lower costs, quality of life, and the<br \/>\ntranquility that some of its cities offer.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to remain in Mexico for a period of time of over 180 days but fewer than 4 years,<br \/>\nthen it is mandatory that you apply for a temporary resident visa. However, this will not allow<br \/>\nyou to work in the country. On the other hand, if you intend to remain in the country for a<br \/>\nperiod of over 4 years, then you should apply for a permanent resident visa, which, in<br \/>\ncontrast to other types of permits, does not expire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In order to apply for a permanent resident visa you should fulfill the following<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Have a valid passport<br \/>\n\u25cf Bring a passport size photo<br \/>\n\u25cf Be a citizen of the country from which you apply for the visa, or otherwise prove your<br \/>\nlegal residency<br \/>\n\u25cf Prove your economic solvency<br \/>\n\u25cf Comply with the payment of duties<br \/>\n\u25cf Present the documents that prove any of the following relationships: Parents,<br \/>\nunderaged children, siblings, cohabitants; underaged stepchildren of a Mexican or<br \/>\nanother permanent resident or holder of a permanent resident visa.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of spouses, cohabitants or concubines, they will be granted temporary residency,<br \/>\nand after two years under these conditions, they will be able to apply for their permanent<br \/>\nresidency card.<\/p>\n<p>&gt; You may be interested in our entry: Permanent Residency for Retirees.<\/p>\n<p>To prove your economic solvency there are a series of requirements that include:<br \/>\n\u25cf A letter from the bank or another financial institution that authenticates that you have<br \/>\nan investment or savings fund.<br \/>\n\u25cf Showing your bank statements of at least the past 12 months.<br \/>\n\u25cf Income being equal to five thousand days of minimum wage for temporary residency,<br \/>\nand twenty thousand days of minimum wage for permanent residency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the process?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is required to have an interview at the Mexican Consulate of your country of origin to apply<br \/>\nfor the permanent residency.
