In Immigration

This type of residency is aimed at foreigners who, just like you, intend to live within
our national territory.

The idea of living in Mexico is becoming increasingly popular among foreigners. Some of the
main reasons for such change of residency may include lower costs, quality of life, and the
tranquility that some of its cities offer.

If you want to remain in Mexico for a period of time of over 180 days but fewer than 4 years,
then it is mandatory that you apply for a temporary resident visa. However, this will not allow
you to work in the country. On the other hand, if you intend to remain in the country for a
period of over 4 years, then you should apply for a permanent resident visa, which, in
contrast to other types of permits, does not expire.

In order to apply for a permanent resident visa you should fulfill the following
requirements:
● Have a valid passport
● Bring a passport size photo
● Be a citizen of the country from which you apply for the visa, or otherwise prove your
legal residency
● Prove your economic solvency
● Comply with the payment of duties
● Present the documents that prove any of the following relationships: Parents,
underaged children, siblings, cohabitants; underaged stepchildren of a Mexican or
another permanent resident or holder of a permanent resident visa.

In the case of spouses, cohabitants or concubines, they will be granted temporary residency,
and after two years under these conditions, they will be able to apply for their permanent
residency card.

To prove your economic solvency there are a series of requirements that include:
● A letter from the bank or another financial institution that authenticates that you have
an investment or savings fund.
● Showing your bank statements of at least the past 12 months.
● Income being equal to five thousand days of minimum wage for temporary residency,
and twenty thousand days of minimum wage for permanent residency.

What is the process?

It is required to have an interview at the Mexican Consulate of your country of origin to apply
for the permanent residency. The process concludes at the National Institute of Immigration
(INM) in Mexico.

The permanent resident card (or green card) that will accredit your legal and permanent stay
should be processed within the first 30 days after you enter national territory.
